Josh Hinton – District 2
Henry County Board of Education
It is with great excitement that I announce my bid for re-election to the Henry County Board of Education to represent your voice and continue the exceptional work that our board has accomplished on behalf of the students, families, and community members of this great county. Eight short years ago, I had the same desire to make a difference for the students and families who trusted our school district to provide them with a solid foundation for an incredible future. As a native of Henry County and graduate of the former Henry County High School, I know how special an education in this district is and the doors it can open for a young person with great ambitions.
Since earning my high school diploma, I was able to go off to college to pursue my goals of being a business owner. I was successful in this pursuit, and it led me back to the county that has given me so much. I, along with my wife and two daughters, are proud residents of Hampton, and I have my insurance business in the county, too.
As the second-longest tenured member of the current Board of Education, I have served under three different superintendents and been able to represent your voice as a part of great growth for our district and academic achievement for our students and staff. As the current chair of the Board of Education, I have the distinct honor of leading our collective group along with Superintendent Mary Elizabeth Davis. A quick reflection over my time as your respresentive will show that great progress has been made on behalf of District 2 and the entire district. And that is why I humbly ask for your support and vote to continue the work that we have started to make Henry County Schools the highest-acheiving district in the state and beyond.
Let’s continue the work we started.
There’s no doubt that I wouldn’t be where I am without your support. I don’t take that for granted. Each an every time I meet with constituents, visit a school, or lead a meeting, I have one focus – the success of our students. Success can be definited in so many different ways, but every student must have the same quality education, regardless of their zip code. They must be ready to face life beyond high school with a solid academic footing and foundation filled with experiences they were granted through extracurricular activities and the relationships built with the highest-quality, most caring educators around.
Henry County has experienced incredible growth since the early 2000’s. Since the start of the millenium, Henry County Schools grew from 20,000 students to the current enrollment of over 43,000 students, and we are on the upward trend to add more according to the Atlanta Regional Commission. I have respresented your voice during some of the most challenging times any school board has ever faced, and we are now in a place of financial stability, academic growth, and community trust.
When I started on the board, we were faced with state austerity cuts, furlough days, and other burdens due to the economic recession, and our board made some tough, and sometimes unpopular decisions to see us on the other side without having to let employees go or expend our savings. Our fanancial stewardship saw us through that time, and we are now operating with the highest, balanced budget in school district history while being able to put some funds back into our district savings account in the event we need it one day.
Now, with the leadership of Superintendent Davis, my colleagues and I are making great strides to strengthen the future for our students and our community. Our students are graduating at the highest level in district history, while increasing their reading and academic proficiency levels across all content areas. Our CCRPI saw the fastest growth of any district in the metro area, and even greater achievement is on the horizon.
In order to continue this upward trajectory, I am humbly asking for your vote to allow the current board of education to continue the work we have started and see success grow in District 2 and in every other corner of our county.
You can always county on me to put the interests of all students and families, including those in District 2, at the heart of every decision I make when serving as your representative and the board’s chair.

Award-Winning Board of Education
The Henry County Board of Education recently earned a Leading Edge Award from the Georgia School Boards Association.
Our Board of Educatoin was one of only two boards in the state to receive a Leading Edge Award for Communication around our Policy BAB – Henry’s Plan of Action. This key policy fo rour district and our efforts to involve the community in this key component to our governance framework earned our district the recognition. But it was the community who played a vital role in making this policy a reality.
